Our technical and logistical expertise have provided field research support to explore several deep ocean and Antarctic projects to study: 1) Antarctic marine microbial gene expression in response to changes in environmental conditions, 2) the genes and pathways of Alvinella pompejana - and the bacteria that live on Alvinella – that permit this community to thrive at the wide temperature ranges in their home at the deep hydrothermal vents, and 3) marine microbial communities  and the nutrient systems associated with free-drifting icebergs in the Weddell Sea.
